7 Ways to Make Sure Google Likes Your Landing Page
Does Google care about where you point your ads to? You bet they do! In fact Google checks which page you point your ads to at least once a month. They then rate your page according to their scoring system and how users have interacted with your page in the past month. What
does this all mean you might say? Well it means Google wants to make sure that the ads that are being placed on its site and search partners are delivering the most relevant information to their users. They know that if someone clicks your ad and they click right back that the there is something wrong with the ad or the landing page and you will be punished for it by paying more per click than if you had an ad and landing page that matched. I know some are saying “That’s not fair”. Fair or not that is the system that we have and the best thing to do is to beat the system! Nothing in this post is going to get you kicked out of Google (at least it won’t’ as of this post). Seriously it is about making sure things match up so let’s get into things.
- Make sure your landing page headline mentions your keyword or key phrase from your ad. Nothing is going to cause a visitor to leave quicker then realizing that the page they landed on has nothing to do with what they clicked. Make sure the page has an attention getting headline that causes the visitor to read on.
- Don’t direct ads to your home page. There is no better way to have a poor conversion rate and have Google ding you because you direct every ad from every ad group you are running to your home page. You can’t make your home page match up to the different ads you should be running.
- Give them something for Free. Who doesn’t like free? Offer your visitor more information, free mls, free CMA, free report, something of value that they can get so that they continue on farther into your website or blog.
- Don’t force them to sign in right way – Users don’t like to give there information up right away. After all do you give someone you just met your phone number? Internet visitors think the same thing about their e-mail so don’t ask for it until you have given them something of value first.
- Don’t use pop-ups – Google will disapprove your page if you do this and visitors don’t like it. Even if Google misses it visitors will just go back to Google and find someone who doesn’t give them a pop-up.
- Provide high quality of information – when users see value in a website they stay around and they look deeper into your website. You don’t want them leaving and going to find your competitor so make sure you have as much quality content as possible on your website so that visitors can stay awhile.
- Add sound or video that the user can control – nothing is better for the visitor than interaction so give them a video or an instant audioclip to play. Let the user control it and they will stick around to see what else you have.Remember to think like a visitor first and Google will reward you appropriately with a higher quality score.
