Get your website in shape Have you ever made the decision to join a gym with just a bit of hesitation?  I mean, you know it is the right thing to do, but you still are just a little reluctant to get in there and get to working out.  After all, the mere thought of exercise has the word “work” in “working out”, so it must be painful, right? In fact, the overwhelming anxiety of joining the gym and then doing something like working out stops many from ever attempting the task!

This is not much different than the anxiety that many real estate professionals have when approaching getting their website to start working for them.  Sometimes the overwhelming anxiety of not understanding what needs to be done creates such a panic that many never start.  Well, I thought it might be helpful to cover 3 easy steps to remove the pain and anxiety of getting your website in shape.  Never fear, none of these steps will involve hitting the treadmill and you shouldn’t sweat completing any of these easy tasks!

  1. Navigation - This is an easy one to start with.  Most real estate template website come preloaded with way too many choices!  This is your first step to trim weight quickly.  Trim your navigation choices down to 6-8 items for visitors to choose from.  This will make them dig deeper into your website to see what you have to offer.  Never fear as you will make the most important areas on your website easily viewable.  Here are a few navigation choices that you may want to keep:
    1. MLS Search
    2. Neighborhood Information
    3. Buyer Center
    4. Seller Center
    5. Contact
    6. Testimonials

As you can see you can keep the list limited but still allow your visitors to get to high value areas of your website. Keeping the choices to a minimum makes it easy for someone to find what they need.

  1. Page Headings - Here is a big one that is also easy to change.  The headings at the top of each page (usually displayed using an H1 html tag) are one of the most important elements on a page for your success in the search engines.  The sad part is that is often ignored and not much time is put into them.  Take the time to change some of your high traffic pages to have great titles.
    1. Weight Loss Tip - Changing the page titles on your neighborhood pages will give you some of the greatest reward for the least amount of effort.
  2. Web Address - Ok, phew, this may seem like one of those big ones, like the trainer telling you need to run 6 miles on day one, but don’t worry it’s much easier than you think.  In fact it’s kind of like the trainer telling you to run 6 miles, but you get to run them on the people movers at the airport J.

Many agents have a web address that is “firstnamelastname.com” and that is a nice one to have, but doesn’t really communicate what area you operate in.  Try choosing a web address that communicates to the visitor what area you operate in like:

  1. LovelySpringValleyHomes.com
  2. LuxurySantaMonicaCondos.com
  3. DowntownSanFranciscoLofts.com

Choosing a web address that defines your specialty is a great way to increase your leads and success in the search engines.  You get a web address that is cheaper than GoDaddy at TopAgentDomains.com

So you can see that getting your website in shape really isn’t that bad.  Starting with just these 3 will make it easy to keep on going and maintaining your website so it generates leads (and commissions) every month.  If you want regular training and coaching to keep your website in shape, Online Real Estate Success offers monthly coaching for just $50/mo.  Try it today to stay in shape and keep succeeding!
