If You Blog It They Will Come
Most people have seen the movie field of dreams. For those who haven’t it stars Kevin Costner and he removes valuable corn fields and builds a baseball field. Famous baseball players from the past come to play baseball on this field but not before he faces absolute ruin and riducle by almost everyone around him. In the end it works out for him and everything works out for the best.Your real estate blog can seem like this in the early going. You may hear the following from family members, office associates, competitors, and business partners:
- You are wasting time
- It will not work
- No one is contact us so what are you doing
When my brother and I started in real estate 5 years ago everyone said that our Internet strategy, the same one we have built our coaching program and that our team operates on, would fail. They said we didn’t have a chance because we wouldn’t door knock or make cold calls. You truly have to know that your real estate blog will be successful and you must build it or they will not come.
The first 90 days of your real estate blog are the most important. They will define whether you will be successful or you will not. I say this because most blogs are abandoned after this period of time only to be left alone in cyberspace within no one to care for them. Remember in order to have buying and selling leads you must build it so they will come.
To make sure that you have success long term make sure that the first 90 days of your real estate blog are fun and exciting. Follow some simple tips for success:
- Ask others for their support - if they don’t want to ask them nicely to keep their opinions to themselves.
- Don’t try and blog every day - this will lead to frustration if you can’t get to it. For the first 30 days start with 1 a week or a maximum of 4. For the second 30 write 6 posts. For the last 30 days set your goal at 8 posts.
- Write on topics you like - if you don’t like writing about new loan programs don’t! Write about what you like and others will enjoy it.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff - don’t worry about your writing just write. You will be surprised at what you come up with.
- Take breaks - if you can’t write the post in one session take a break and relax. It should be fun.
Your real estate blog is about communicating all of your valuable information that you have in your head to your clients. Lead with the passion that you have for helping others and you will be rewarded. If you blog it they will come!
