Google Says Links & Blogging are Keys to Success

Keys to Success with Google Who can argue with Google right? Google makes the rules (at least for their own search engine) and we are expected to follow. You don’t have to you just won’t be showing up in their search results any time soon.

The recent article by Jefferson Graham of the USA Today he speaks with Matt Cutts of Google. “Good directions drive traffic to your website” discuss some key points of how Google goes about determining the page rank of a website and how they (Google) then goes about putting them in the SERP(Search Engine Result Pages).

I encourage everyone to take a look at the article but for some highlights let’s get a few points out. As always there are the big points but we like to make sure everyone chooses to follow some of the finer points as those add up to success as well.

Links- We got it Google likes links from other websites and Cutts tells you this straight out to make sure other people are linking to you.
Register for Free Tools - this may just be so Google can get more information in their database but if it helps then do it. They talk about the free ones Google has and we would say use them as they are great and free.
Use the Keywords in your Pages and posts - we have said this time and again. If you are a Santa Cruz real estate agent it is almost impossible to talk about Santa Cruz real estate without saying “Santa Cruz Real Estate” and that is how Google knows what you are writing about.
Blog Often- I liked this one from Cutts as it is something that everyone can control. Cutts talks about posting often and linking back to your site. For example if you previewed a home today write about it and link back to your website. Google will get the hint that your website is where people need to go.

Don’t try and tackle everything at once. Take your time and make your list small so that you can accomplish it.
