Google Analytics

One of the big things every real estate professional wants to know is how well they are doing.  As real estate agents we are trained to track some key data.  I mean after all we religiously check some of the following:

  • How many deals have I closed this year?
  • What is my gross commission amount?
  • What is my sales volume?

This all seems pretty natural, after all, we got into real estate to help people buy and sell homes so we need to track this sort of data!

Now, enter the world of real estate marketing online.  We know it’s a medium to help us reach more consumers, but what do we track to make sure we are on the right pace?  It’s a question that frustrates many, so I thought it might be helpful if we took a look at some key metrics that we can monitor to see how our real estate websites and blogs are progressing.

The screen shot above is from Google Analytics on one of our websites about Long Beach real estate.  There is quite a bit to look at, but let’s take a few items to focus on.

  • Keywords - Take a look at the keywords that your website is being found on.  Are these the words that you anticipated?  If you are targeting a specific keyword and you aren’t being found on it, you might need to take some action (i.e. write more content, create more blog posts, or get some more people linking to your website).
  • Page per Visit - Are people staying on your website and checking out what’s going on? Or are they visiting just 1 page and leaving?  Hopefully your content is interesting enough to have people stick around for a few pages.
  • Average time on Site - If people are aren’t sticking around for at least a minute or two, you might not be offering them what they are looking for.  If this number is below 1 minute, make sure you look check your website to make sure you are offering tools that buyers and sellers are looking for (mls listings, home evaluation tools, etc.)
  • Unique Visitors - Ahh, the almighty visitor count!  This is what most real estate professionals stress out about.  You will want to monitor this to ensure your count is growing.  Whether you are starting from 100 or 1,000 you want to make sure this number is going up!

You could literally spend hours upon hours looking at web reports, but the key part is to look at them and take some action! Taking a look at just a few key elements and then taking some action to improve those results will increase your business.

If you aren’t getting people to look through your website, try our real estate website content system so you can learn the key elements to creating content that attracts visitors and gets them to contact you.
