How has 2008 been? For most having another 6 transactions could mean the different between staying in real estate or having to get a job, probably the job we left real estate for. So how do we make sure that 2009 is different than 2008? We start by doing things a little bit differently and off with a plan for success.

Plan for Success

This may sound obvious but many real estate professionals start with No plan so they inadvertently plan for failure. If you don’t start off with a plan for how many transactions, where they are going to come from, and how you are going to go about doing it you are starting off with no plan. NOW is the time you need to be answering the questions:

  • What are my goals for 2009?
  • What am I going to be doing differently?
  • What is stopping me from being successful right now?

Sometimes these are easy questions sometimes they are hard. The most important thing we can do is admit what we have problems with and that if we didn’t accomplish our goals we need to do something differently.

What do you do best?

Now this is something many real estate professionals never answer in their entire careers. What do they really do best? Is it buyers, sellers, or maybe even a specialized type of buyer or seller such as first time home buyers or investment sellers.

When you know what you do best you can help more of those types of clients and it seems a lot less like work.

Why didn’t you accomplish your goals?

This one may be tough to take but what was the real reason you didn’t accomplish your goals. Was it the market? Was it you didn’t generate enough leads? Was it that you didn’t have anyone to hold you accountable and help you?

Sometimes having someone to bounce ideas off of or go to for help can be the difference between success and failure. That may be an experienced agent in the office, a long time friend, or a real estate coach who coaches people for a living.

Use systems that are already proven to work

If you start off with proven systems it makes life tremendously easier. Nothing is worse than trying things that don’t work because they have no track record, they are just a guess, or someone “thinks” they might work. After all you are going to be using your hard earned money for this so you better make sure that whatever you implement it is going to work.

Whatever system you implement whether it be for more FSBO leads, more Expired listings, or more Buyer leads make sure it is one that works, works for your personality, & has a guarantee that it will work if you put the effort in.

End 2008 right so you get 6 more transactions in 2009
