Try Something New, You Aren’t The Only One That Struggles With It
Being in the land of gurus I felt that everyone had mastered the latest of technologies available. I knew that each one ran a major business online and to do such they had learned a myriad of skills and probably kept up on just about everything to maintain their competitive advantage. Of course we were all there to learn more so it was revealed that we often share the same struggles with learning.
Each of the businesses operated in a different niche so they had different approaches to advertising, getting new customers, and selling products. Each one of us had the common theme of wanting to increase our results in the market place. Generally speaking if we wanted to improve we were going to have to learn something new and tackle a “new project” for our business.
One of the entrepreneurs brought up Facebook and Twitter. Since many had not used them yet for their business we had a great discussion on the subjects. Here are some highlights of what we discussed:
- Many of them had not used either application at the time of the conference
- Frustration levels rose at the thought of learning a new application
- We all pondered on how to make either application work in our different businesses. The bottom line question: How do we use the applications to help our businesses grow?
Since I was one of the members of the group that was using both applications I was able to contribute to the conversation more than on some other topics (find me on facebook at Jamey on Facebook and follow me on twitter). What I really liked though is that the focus was on how to make the applications produce revenue.
Really, try something new
The neatest aspect of the conversation on these still relatively new technologies was the facts that even the best and brightest in the room struggled with needing to learn new applications. The same fears that we all struggle with were commonly shared:
- Fear of taking time to learn the new application
- Fear of not seeing how the application would grow revenue
- Fear of the application fading after just mastering it
Even with these fears in place though there was not a single person who said they wouldn’t try them. Everyone agreed that time should be dedicated to trying out these technologies because they could very well impact business in the future (even if not immediately).
The best make themselves learn new technologies and subjects because they not only see the value in learning; they see the value in trying something new in their business.
Take action with your business
Think, when was the last time you tried something new in your real estate business? Was it a new technology or just a new way of marketing? In order to maintain your edge in your market it is going to require learning something new, but it doesn’t have to be a painful experience it can be fun!
This course is all about action, so here is what you can do to take the next step in your real estate business.
- Try a new application - If you haven’t jumped on Twitter or Facebook it would be a great idea to start with. If you are already on those then reach out and try something else new in your business. It could be as simple as a new widget for your blog or using Audio Testimonials on your website, just try something new.
The more often you try something new the easier it will be to continue to do it. Really, Joe and I try a new product or service almost every month. Not everything works, but often we get some great results that we didn’t anticipate. Get out there, try something new and drop us a comment on what you tried, we would love to hear it.
Before I forget, how are your outlines coming on those follow up e-mails?

Reamark,
I would certainly say put a couple of social networking sites on the list to participate in. Start small though because it can be overwhelming if you join too many at once
