Facebook is for “Old People”
James and I were out this week doing training for real estate agents on social networking. Live training events are great because we get to meet new people in new areas and see what is going on. Many times agents greet us with “This all sounds great but Facebook & all of this social network is for teenagers”.
Now that might sounds like a fair assesment at first however let me share conversation we just recently had with a teenager who was helping us get our office organized. For anyone who has ever seen our office this is no small feet.
Amanda had just recently attended her high school senior prom and the conversation that followed was like this.
Joey & James: Glad you had a good time at prom are you going to be putting any of the pictures you took on Facebook?
Amanda: Facebook is for old people.
Joey & James: Old people? What do you use?
Amanda: Myspace
Joey & James: Why?
Amanda: Because it is more fun. You don’t see any young people on Facebook (ouch).
Joey & James: Fair enough we use Facebook to do business. It started on college campuses.
Amanda: Yeah that’s what I mean people are in college or older, like you guys.
This was a great conversation that really made things as crystal clear as possible. If you want to have “fun” go to myspace. If you want to do business focus your social networking websites that produce results.
If you are “old” then you will be just fine on Facebook according to teenagers and that is a clear sign we are all on the right path.
